Templates for itch.io Branding Elements
1. Essential Elements
• Cover Image:
Recommended size: 630x500px (minimum size: 315x250px).
The cover image is the first impression of your game, so it’s important to follow the recommended resolution to ensure sharpness and visibility.
2. Theme Elements
• Banner:
Width: 930px minimum, but it can be larger based on your design needs.
File size recommendation: less than 400KB for optimal performance, though this is up to the creator.
• Background :
Use Full HD (1920x1080px) as a reference. Note that depending on the user’s screen, the background may be cropped. Any custom resolution is acceptable, as long as the file size is under 3MB.
• Embed Background:
This background only applies if your game is playable in the browser on itch.io. It allows you to enhance your embedded web game’s appearance but will not display otherwise.
3. Promo Images
• Social Media:
Recommended size: 600x315px. This aspect ratio aligns well with platforms like Twitter and Facebook, ensuring your game looks great when shared.
• Favicon:
Recommended size: 32x32px.
Keep it simple and recognizable at this small size.
• Wide Cover:
Aspect ratio: 21:9. A cinematic ratio for showcasing your game in a banner format, for promo images.
• Logo:
Format: Transparent PNG. Your logo should be designed with clarity in mind and look good on both light and dark backgrounds. A horizontal layout with a wider aspect ratio is preferred as it will overlay on promotional modules across itch.io, taking the place of your project’s title in some views.
Screenshots and Resolutions
This pack also includes references for screenshot templates, ensuring your game visuals fit perfectly across various devices and resolutions. Here are the dimensions you’ll find in the pack.
Device-Specific Resolutions
• GameBoy: 160x144px (Original resolution for retro GameBoy games).
• iPhone SE: 640x1136px.
• iPhone 14, 15, and 16: 1170x2532px (Note: Some models from iPhone share the same resolution, so only the latest is provided.).
Web and Standard Resolutions:
• XGA (1024x768px) – also known as 4:3.
• WXGA (1280x720px) – also known as HD.
• WXGA+ (1440x900px).
• FHD 1080p (1920x1080px).
• WQHD (2560x1440px).
• QFHD (3840x2160px) – also known as 4K.
1:1 Aspect Ratio:
• 347x347px, 720x720px, 1080x1080px, and 2160x2160px.
3:4 Aspect Ratio:
• 347x463px (close to 3:4 but slightly off), 720x960px, 1080x1440px.
Screenshot Limitations on itch.io
• The default width for screenshots on itch.io is 347px. Larger images will be scaled down, and the maximum resolution supported is QFHD (3840x2160px).
• Keep in mind that portrait screenshots with a higher aspect ratio than 3:4 may look thin due to the width scaling, especially when mixed with landscape images.
Image Size & Compression Tips
• The maximum image size allowed is 3MB.
• Supported file types include JPG, PNG, GIF, but note that GIFs will not play on mobile devices at the time of writing.
• To optimize image file sizes, you can use compression tools such as TinyPNG, Photoshop’s “Save for Web” option, or other online image compression tools.
If you plan to upload portrait images, a 3:4 aspect ratio is recommended, as it balances the height and width nicely, ensuring your screenshots display well without appearing stretched or too narrow.
Blue Print
For the blueprint-style images, follow a scaled measurement system, much like in architectural drawings:
• Small scale units: A line is drawn every 10px to represent smaller, precise measurements. This serves as a reference for fine-tuning details.
• Medium scale units: Every 100px, another line is drawn to mark a more significant separation. This is useful for ensuring that key elements are properly aligned.
• Large scale units: Finally, at every 1000px, a bold line is used to emphasize major structural divisions, helping to maintain overall composition and balance in larger elements like banners and backgrounds.
This blueprint grid system mimics the modular coordination used in architectural design, making it easier to scale and proportion your images appropriately.
Why Use This Pack?
This asset pack makes it easier to meet the visual standards of itch.io while providing flexibility in customization. By using the included templates, you can ensure your game page looks its best across all devices and resolutions, helping you make a great first impression on your audience.
